Is the economy showing signs of life?
It’s April 17th, and for the first time since the recession started, I am started to hear my friends talk about business picking up a little bit. And, although, I am still hearing troubling stories from other friends about layoffs, firings, etc., it seems like there are at least encouraging signs. I also own a small furniture company online and the last two weeks have been respectable. 2 months ago, it was brutal. Even several weeks ago it was really bad. But, recently I have noticed customers starting to come back little by little. They’re coming in two groups. The first group is the group that is ready to shop again but only if they can haggle you and get a good deal. If they don’t get the deal they want, they’ll just wait. Since we price our furniture very competitively from the outset, its hard to haggle with these people so they end up not buying or will just wait until they turn into the second group. The second group is the group with money that could have bought 2 months ago but has been just holding onto money until now. This group seems to be loosening the purse strings alittle. We’ll see if the trend continues or if this is just a tax return blip.
