Ron Artest & Kobe Bryant
Did you see the Lakers/Rockets game 2 nights ago? Ron Artest, long known as the bad boy of the NBA, was ejected from the game for getting in Kobe Bryants face after an altercation under the boards. Artest was livid and hoped, against hope, the referees would get Bryant with a foul or more. After realizing the referees didn’t plan on doing anything, Artest decided to confront Bryant with the issue. Artest got in his face and used his elbow to visually show Bryant what he thought was over the top and he wouldn’t have any of it. Then he got ejected.
I know Artest has a history…and I don’t defend his history. But, Kobe Bryant is far from perfect.
My point is, Artest has been a pretty model NBA citizen this year. He has worked to keep his emotions in check and, at least on the court, has just played. It’s very hard for me to defend or judge anyone who I don’t know personally because that’s how I judge people. But, taking the situation as I saw it, Kobe Bryant just rubs me the wrong way…most all of the time. His arrogance is just palpable. He just seems to have this attitude about him that makes you want to be on the opposite side of him. By the way he plays, I would be very intense playing him. I can see how Ron Artest wanted to confront him. Plus, I don’t mind the way Artest handled the situation. I really much prefer a guy stand up for himself and take matters into his own hands rather than allow a guy like Kobe Bryant to act like he does. I’m not losing sleep over Kobe Bryant. I will say this. In terms of how I view and know them publicly ONLY, I would rather have my son act live Ron Artest than Kobe Bryant ANY DAY of the week.
